Autumn 2023 Anime + TV Season

I can’t believe it’s another season!

Anime

Despite a strike-filled quarter in the Western world, I still found very little anime suitable to my tastes. I must accept that, like how Vtubees and Holothingies dominate the conversations these days, that the industry has moved on without me! (not that I really care…). But boy, is it hard to write a season preview when it’s the norm for shows to have a screwed-up production schedule to the point where they spillover into the following cour (here’s looking at you, Zombie show…)

"Ready Chuuya and... action!"

"This is a view rivaling even the most priceless painting." Chuuya smirked as he stood on the stairs. "Eh, Dazai?" Chuuya shifted his foot, causing him to slip and fall down the fake stairs. "Oh shit." He said before face planting.

"Pfffftttt." Dazai began to laugh, before bursting into loud laughter. "There are tears coming out of my eyes ahaha!"

Dazai laughed almost breathlessly as he removed his hands from the fake cuffs and clutched his abdomen.

"Shut up Dazai it wasn't that funny!" Chuuya said, trying to contain his own laughter. The rest of the cast and the crew didn't make any attempt to cover their laughter. After Dazai composed himself a little bit, he looked at Chuuya, still clutching at his aching abdomen.

"You okay?" Dazai asked, still slightly chuckling.

"Yep I'm good." He stood up and brushed himself off, then walked back to his position. "Let's do this again."

"You know I think we should use that for the actual episode." Dazai smirked at Asagiri.

"Fuck you Dazai and get back in the chains!" Chuuya laughed.  

"Ooh kinky Chuuya~"

"Oh my god." Asagiri groaned as she planted her face in her palm. "Okay ready, take two aannddd, action!"

"No, actually, it's a little too convenient." Chuuya stated sternly as he grabbed a fistful of Dazai's hair and pulled him

closer. He stared into Dazai's eyes blankly, staying silent. Dazai smiled a bit.

"You forgot your line didn't you?"

"Yes." He responded quietly with a tiny laugh. "Can we try this again?" Chuuya smiled at the crew.

"No actually it's a little too convenient." Chuuya pulled Dazai closer by his hair. "You may be able to deceive that little apprentice Akutagawa, but remember, I'm your old partner." Chuuya smirked. Dazai smiled a bit as he leaned forward, before planted a chaste kiss onto the redhead's nose.

"Dazai what the-"

"THAT'S GAY." Atsushi shouted from behind the camera.

"Dazai seriously," Asagiri sighed. "Yes the sexual tension between your characters in obvious but you have to make it at least seem like you hate each other."

"But how could I ever hate my little Chuuya! The only thing I hate is his hat."

"Fuck you the hat wasn't even my choice!" Chuuya snapped at Dazai before releasing his hair harshly, throwing Dazai's head back a bit.

"Alright lets get it on this take people." Asagiri anounced. "Ready and.. action!"

"And that's a wrap! Nice job today guys, the new scripts are in your dressing rooms. Be here tomorrow at 9 sharp. I'm looking at you Dazai, since you never make it on time." She threatened the brunet as he removed the long tan coat.

"Alright alright I'll try to make it on time."

"No, you will make it on time." She pointed her long at him before turned and walking towards the door. Dazai laughed as he walked into his dressing room to change into his normal street clothes. He removed his shirt and realized that he had to get the bandages off. He felt around his upper body for a few minutes trying to find a loose piece that he could pull to unravel himself.

"Uh hey can someone help me with these bandages? I can't get them off." Dazai shouted as he poked his head out of the door. He could hear Chuuya's laughter erupt from another area of the studio.

"You've actually become a mummy!" He shouted. "That's one step closer to being six feet under!"

"Yet I'll forever be 8 inches above you, pipsqueak." Dazai retorted as the redhead walked over with a pair of scissors.

"I'm about ready to stab you."

"At least I wouldn't bleed out because my body is covered in these damn bandages." Dazai shrugged as Chuuya carefully slipped the scissors under the edge of the white fabric and slowly cut upwards.

"Hey Chuuya, you wanna come over tonight? I was thinking about cooking dinner." Dazai asked as Chuuya cut the last bandage. He looked up to Dazai's brown eyes.

"Yeah sure, want me to bring a movie?" He questioned with a smile.

"Wasn't there a movie that you wanted me to watch?" Dazai asked as he stepped further into the dressing room and began changing his clothes. Chuuya couldn't help the flush that crept up his chest and heated his cheeks. He averted his gaze down to his designer shoes.

"Oh yeah that one. Uhm yeah I can bring that over. I think you'll like it." Chuuya stuttered slightly.

"Perfect. Be at my house at 6." Dazai said as he kissed Chuuya's temple and stepped out of his dressing room. "See you guys tomorrow!" He waved to the rest of the cast and the crew as they cleaned up, gathered their things and prepared for tomorrow's shoot.

Chuuya bit his lip slightly as dazai walked away, but couldn't bring himself to move his feet quite yet. Dazai and Chuuya were indeed dating, but Chuuya still couldn't help the butterflies that fluttered in his stomach whenever he was around Dazai. Chuuya inhaled deeply through his nose befire turning and stepping out of Dazai's dressing room and into his own.

Chuuya lifted a pale hand to the door and knocked three times. He took a deep breath and listened to the muffled footsteps coming from inside. The lock unclicked and the door swung open.

"Hey you, come on in." Dazai smiled as he stepped aside to let Chuuya in. Dazai's house was big, with dark, polished hard wood floors and light walls. It was always clean even though he had no cleaning service, and the walls were decorated nicely with elegant paintings and photos of family and friends. There was even a framed photo from the cast party before filming for the show began. Chuuya couldn't help but smile at the familiar atmosphere as Dazai closed the front door. "Did you bring the DVD?" Chuuya was snapped out of his trance by Dazai's smooth voice.

"Oh yeah I've got it. How's dinner going? Need any help?" Chuuya asked as he faced Dazai.

"Nope, it's ready, actually. Come into the kitchen, I'll get you a plate." Dazai smiled as he stepped through the archway that connected the entry hall to the modern style, black and white kitchen.

"That smells amazing Dazai." Chuuya followed Dazai as he took a deep whiff of the heavenly aroma.

"You're favorite, chicken cordon bleu." Dazai replied and made Chuuya smile. Dazai leaned down and planted a quick kiss on Chuuya's lips. "Plates are in the cabinet to the right of the doorframe, think you can grab two?"

"Of course." He smiled before walking over to the cabinet. He looked up and sighed quietly. "Uh hey Dazai-"

"Yeah?" Dazai replied without looking away from the pan he was currently working with.

"Don't laugh," Chuuya paused. "But I can't reach your plates." He finished and stared up at the black plates stacked neatly just out of his reach. He looked over to the stove where Dazai stood when he heard a small chuckle. "Hey I told you not to laugh!"

"I'm sorry I couldn't help myself," Dazai said between fits of laughter. "It's cute." Chuuya purses his lips trying to push the heat that was creeping into his cheeks back down.

"Damn that was delicious." Chuuya sighed as he plopped himself on the couch. "I didn't know you could cook that dish."

"I learned for you, babe." Dazai said as he placed the dvd in the tray. Chuuya couldn't help but smile a bit at the little nickname that his boyfriend slipped.

"Did you just call me 'babe'?"

"Oh, guess I did. Are you upset?" Dazai asked as he stared at the ocean colored orbs.

"No, not at all babe." Chuuya smiled a smile that Dazai happily returned. He stood from his position in front of the television and walked over before plopping down next to Chuuya and putting an arm around his shoulders.
